Dill for Dogs
Dill helps reduce cholesterol, can help support healthy heart function and has cancer fighting properties. It even has anti-inflammatory properties, so it’s helpful in minimising the effects of arthritis in dogs.
An annual herb related to celery, dill is believed to have its origins in India and Southeast Asia.
Back in the days of the great ancient Greek and Roman empires it was used by the ancient Greeks to flavour wine and, apparently, both Greek and Roman soldiers covered their war wounds with burned dill seeds in order to speed up the healing process. How on earth they worked that one out is anyone’s guess!
Fortunately, today it’s better known as a beneficial herb and a popular culinary ingredient, particularly good for flavouring fish dishes.
Dill is a good source of vitamin B2, B6 and B9, and is particularly rich in vitamin C. It is also an excellent source of calcium, magnesium and potassium, and particularly rich in iron and manganese along with dietary fibre and amino acids.
Antioxidant-rich dill has so many health benefits to offer dogs, it’s difficult to know where to begin. With its antibacterial properties, it’s good for the digestive system, so it’s ideal for dogs who suffer from bloating, wind, diarrhea or constipation. It can also help maintain good liver, bladder, pancreas and kidney function.
Dill also helps reduce cholesterol, can help support healthy heart function and has cancer fighting properties. It even has anti-inflammatory properties, so it’s helpful in minimising the effects of arthritis in dogs.
And it’s even considered to help stave off fleas, ticks and other parasites. There’s a lot to like about dill when you look at it!
