Watermelon & Plain Natural Yogurt

the perfect refreshing combination for a warm summer’s day. This is most definitely an iced treat you’ll want to share with your dog. If he or she will let you!

With just two ingredients, this is a summer recipe you can make in minutes, pop in the freezer for a couple of hours and both you and your dog can be enjoying them for days. They’re the perfect way to keep your best friend well hydrated on the warmest of long, hot, summer afternoons.

INGREDIENTS

METHOD

Step 1

Purée the watermelon chunks until smooth.

Step 2

Add 1 tablespoon of yogurt to each space in a mould, ice cube tray or muffin tray.

Step 3

Fill the rest of the space in your mould, ice cube tray or muffin tray with watermelon purée.

Step 4

Freeze until solid. (About 4 hours).

Step 5

Remove treats from your mould and store in an air-tight container in your freezer until they’re required.

About this Recipe

These are most definitely a treat you can share with your dog if your dog will let you. They’re healthy, natural and refreshing – for both of you. Be warned though. Once you’ve tried these treats, you’ll me wanting to try more!

Unless you are making these purely for yourself, remember to use only plain natural yogurt in this recipe. It’s full of good bacteria and, importantly from your dog’s point of view, has no unhealthy ingredients.

If you use a muffin tray to freeze the treats, allow the frozen treats to sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes until you can use a plastic knife or fork to pop the treats out of the tray. Place in a single layer on a parchment or wax-covered plate or cookie sheet and refreeze for 15 to 20 minutes before storing in an air-tight container.

Always remember to allow for any treats you give your dog when calculating his or her food for the day.

VARIATIONS

Serve on their own or perhaps with an extra dollop of plain natural yogurt and a sprinkling of carob powder or a scoop of homemade frozen yogurt.
