Beef & Sweet Potato Stew
Grain & gluten free beef recipe
Beef mince, nutrient-rich beef heart & beef liver combine with sweet potatoes, parsnip, chickpeas, celery, cabbage, peas and apples to make the ideal beef stew for any dog.
If you’re still feeding your dog commercial dog food, we would suggest using this meal as a dressing or topping by combining the two over the course of three or four days. Reduce your dog’s other food accordingly so as to avoid unhealthy weight gain.
This recipe would be just as nourishing for you and your family. You shouldn’t even need any extra seasoning. Both beef heart and beef liver are extremely nutrient-rich, but if you don’t fancy those yourself, cook them separately and add them to your dog’s food just before apportioning. Do the same with the Eggshell Powder, safflower and salmon oil. That said, you could certainly try it with the safflower oil which aside from being good for you, has a fairly neutral flavour.
- 1kg (2lb 3oz) Beef Mince
- 100g (3 ½oz) Beef Heart
- 50g (1 ¾oz) Beef Liver
- 191g (6 ¾oz) Sweet Potatoes skin on, finely diced
- 172g (6oz) Carrots unpeeled, finely diced
- 96g (3 ½oz) Parsnips unpeeled, finely diced
- 77g (2 ½oz) Cabbage finely chopped
- 77g (2 ½oz) Peas frozen
- 58g (2oz) Chickpeas blended
- 38g (1 ½oz) Celery finely diced (include leaves)
- 57g (2oz) Apple finely diced, cored and de-pipped
- 1g (small pinch) Himalayan Rose Pink Salt
- 8g (2 heaped tablespoons) Beef Herb Blend
- 12g (2 ½ level teaspoons) Eggshell Powder
- 70ml (3 tablespoons) Safflower Oil
- 70ml (3 tablespoons) Salmon Oil
Soak chickpeas overnight in 284ml (½ pint) of water. Cook chickpeas. When cooked, drain water into a saucepan in readiness for the meat. Blend chickpeas with a little of their cooking water and set aside. Add beef mince to a pan with 285ml (½ pint) of water together with the Beef Herb Blend. Cook on a low heat for approximately 5 minutes. Meanwhile, dice heart and liver and add to cooking pan. Cook until the meat turns brown and any liquid is clear. Drain any liquid into the vegetable pan and set cooked meat aside. Add vegetables to pan, longest cooking times first – carrots followed 5 minutes later by sweet potato, peas, parsnips and celery. When cooked, turn off heat and add cabbage, chickpeas and apple. After about 5 minutes, add Eggshell Powder, salt, salmon and safflower oil to vegetables to make these meals complete, and then blend all the ingredients together. Allow to cool before apportioning and/or serving. Either freeze what you don’t immediately need or keep in the fridge for up to 4 days.
