Collard Greens are dog-friendly!

About Collard Greens:
Collard greens are a dark-green, loose-leafed cabbage related to kale and spring greens. Essentially they are brassicas which do not form a central head – they are wild cabbages which have been tamed and eaten for food for in excess of 2,000 years going back to the times of the ancient Greeks.

Rare for edible plants, collard greens, like Brussels sprouts, actually require a short period of frost in order to be at their best in the taste department!

Benefits of Collard Greens:
Like kale, collard greens contain prodigious amounts of vitamin K. In human terms, some 386% of daily recomended intake. They are also rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and manganese, while containing reasonable amounts of vitamin A, vitamin B6 and calcium together with trace amounts of numerous other vitamins and minerals.

High in dietary fibre, collard greens are good for a dog’s digestive health, help promote healthy skin and coat, help maintain healthy bone and muscle, help fight against cancer and lower the risk of heart disease.

So if you have some collard greens left over from your own cooking, you know what to do with them. Feed them to your dog. Better still, make this nutrient-rich vegetable a regular in your dog’s dish!

Preparing & Cooking:
Finely chop (ribs and all), steam or boil until soft and add to your dog’s normal food.
