Celery is dog-friendly!

About Celery:
A marshland plant of the carrot and parsley family, celery has been grown as a vegetable for thousands of years.

In fact it’s been with us for so long, garlands of it were found in the tomb of Tutankhamun, although whether these garlands were made of cultivated or wild celery no one knows for sure.

Benefits of Celery:
Celery is a good source of vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid) B6, B9 (folate), C and E and is particularly rich in vitamin K as well as containing amino acids, calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc.

Celery is said to help in eliminating bad breath in dogs and to lower both blood pressure and cholesterol. Its phytonutrient antioxidants have anti-inflammatory properties that can help with arthritis, and its soluble and insoluble fibre may help prevent diabetes.

If that wasn’t enough, it’s also believed celery may even help in fighting cancer.

Preparing & Cooking:
Remove any stringy pieces as necessary. Cut into bite-sized pieces and feed raw, or cut into bite-sized pieces and steam, braise or lightly boil until soft.

Serving Suggestion:
Cook celery as above, combine with other ingredients and apportion or serve.

See recipe suggestion below or visit recipes for further suggestions.

Your dog can benefit from every part of a stick of celery, including the leaves, stem and stalk.

Follow recipe guidelines to ensure moderation and to avoid digestive issues.
