Forget the negative things you may have heard about making homemade food for your dog. If you can cook for yourself and your family, then you can most certainly cook for your dog too! We’ve done it with great success for a number of years and it’s the single most rewarding thing we’ve ever done. Now we’re here to help you do the same.
To show you how easy it can be, we’ve created a number of simple recipes, one for each protein source. To make life simpler at this stage, every one of these is both grain and gluten free.
As you can see from the recipes above, making homemade food for your dog doesn’t need to be complicated. Take a protein source (meat or fish), add some unsaturated fats (fruit, vegetables, oils), and combine with some carbohydrates (sweet potatoes, potatoes, lentils, rice, pasta). These should be in the ratio of 60% protein, 30% fats and 10% carbohydrates.
To these add one of our Herb Blends for natural vitamins and minerals, and some of our Eggshell Powder for essential calcium. Mix them all together and you have a highly nutritious, 100% natural home cooked meal for your dog without preservatives, without chemicals and without additives of any kind. Importantly, you know exactly what has gone into your best friend’s food because you made it yourself. AND, no matter what anyone tells you, there is not a dry, pouch or tinned dog food in the world that comes even close to matching the goodness of home cooked dog food, let alone one that matches the benefits to behavioural enrichment and long-term health.
The fats in this case by the way are good fats, unsaturated fats which provide essential fatty acids, necessary for every bodily function as well as providing energy. Not to be confused with saturated fats which in too great a quantity are positively harmful to your dog.
Mix this up a bit – vary the proteins, vary the fruit and vegetables, and stick to the basic percentages above and you’re home and dry. Be proud of yourself. You now home cook for your dog!
